You’ll never forget how proud you were to stand up as the godfather, godmother or sponsor for that precious new life. Enter the Alleluia Shop and the Jaeger family. Since founding the specialty store at the Southtown Shopping Center in Bloomington 28 years ago, Marion and Rudy Jaeger have learned a thing or two about gifts for special occasions. Collectibles such as Precious Moments, Hummels, and Cherished Teddies, gifts, books, Bibles, cards and jewelry comprise the majority of the merchandise, most of which is inspirational or religious.

“In some cases,” Marion Jaeger said, “a customer has no idea of what would be appropriate for a certain special occasion and needs some guidance. We’re more than willing to assist him or her with making just the right selection. Providing quality customer service along with offering unique products is what makes our business successful.”

Countless offerings of Precious Moments products have been very significant to the Alleluia Shop since the store began. The popular figurines and giftware accessories are distinguished by tear-drop eyed children and inspirational messages. Marion suggested that “You Have Touched So Many Hearts” is among the sayings that might be ideal for a teacher, nurse or caregiver.

Devotees of Precious Moments look to the Alleluia Shop for the latest new introductions, as well as “retired” figurines and hard to find gems. “We’ve become known as the largest dealer in the area,” Marion said. She recalls when the artist, Sam Butcher, made several promotional visits to the store. “It has always been a highlight for us and for the collectors. I feel the inspirational messages of the figurines really took hold on people and have a way of leaving a lasting warm memory,” she said.

The store has hosted many other special events over the years, including a visit from a Precious Moments sculptor, Cherished Teddies sculptor, Seraphim Angels artist, Fontanini family members and various authors, as well as others.

The owner’s son, John, only 17 years old when the store was founded, upon completing school, worked in another field for a while before returning to the family fold and served as store manager for 14 years.

Over the past 29 years, the store expanded into an adjoining space, moved and expanded again to another space nearby, but most recently moved out of the Southtown Shopping Center. This is by far the biggest move yet, but should prove beneficial to the long-term success of the family owned and operated business.

According to John, “We now have a whole new world of possibilities ahead of us. It’s true our business is changing, but that’s what’s necessary in today’s changing and challenging retail business environment. I look forward to serving our existing local customers, while expanding to serve new customers throughout the country, and even to the ends of the world.”
